Estimate your emergency runway
This calculator is a simple planning tool. It does not predict the future, but it can help you understand how many months of essential expenses your available cash may cover.
Methodology and assumptions
The calculator first estimates your monthly gap: essential monthly expenses − temporary monthly income. It then divides available emergency cash by that gap: available cash ÷ monthly gap = estimated months of runway.
If temporary income equals or exceeds essential expenses, the tool reports no monthly gap rather than treating the result as unlimited guaranteed coverage. It does not model taxes, benefit eligibility, severance timing, insurance reimbursements, inflation, changing expenses, or unexpected costs.

How to read the result
Your emergency runway is an estimate of how long your available cash could cover the gap between essential monthly expenses and temporary income. For example, if essential expenses are $3,000 and temporary income is $1,000, your monthly gap is $2,000.
If you have $6,000 available, your estimated runway would be about three months. This is not perfect, but it gives you a starting point.
